We are delighted to announce that Jane Howarth has won the 2019 Jane Knight Memorial Mediation Scholarship.
Jane has completed the first stage of becoming a family mediator by successfully undertaking the foundation training programme during 2019. She will now work with Family Matters to gain experience and qualify with the Family Mediation Council in family mediation casework.
Doncaster born Jane has previously worked in the field of business and finance. During her career, she has gained particular expertise in dealing with complex financial issues, including tax, pensions and budgetary planning, which enables her to explain complicated concepts in clear and simple language and to support clients to make their own decisions confidently.
“I developed an interest in mediation through working collaboratively with lawyers in my capacity as a financial advisor,” explains Jane. Discussion and research then led her to the conclusion that many of the skills and qualities that she has naturally, such as interpersonal and communication ability, effective face to face work and an ability to understand different opinions and perspectives, along with the technical skills she has gained during her career so far, give her a natural aptitude for family mediation.
Jane continues,
“I am delighted to have been the successful recipient of the first Jane Knight scholarship. I am very grateful to have been given this opportunity to work in a busy, forward-thinking mediation practice.”
We launched the Jane Knight Memorial Mediation Scholarship in 2019 in memory of Jane Knight, a committed family mediator who sadly died suddenly earlier this year. Our managing director, Juliette Dalrymple, says,
“Jane is a very worthy recipient of the first year of this scholarship. She impressed us at Family Matters with a combination of exceptional financial experience and her understanding and warm and empathetic approach to working with separating couples. She demonstrates a commitment to helping people find their own creative solutions through the facilitation of constructive communication. We look forward to working with her on her route to becoming an accredited mediator.”
