What to expect and how to prepare
You have been sent an invitation to a MIAM a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting. You don’t have to take part, but many people who take part in a MIAM come away from the meeting feeling reassured and more confident about their choices for the future.About the meeting
The MIAM will be your confidential one to one meeting with an experienced mediator and will focus on what you want to talk about, what you are worried about and what you would like to talk about in the mediation.
The mediator will give you information so you can make informed choices about your next steps.
A friend or relative can come to the meeting to support you, however, try to think about how you will feel talking about your situation with that person present. Make sure this is someone you will feel comfortable with talking to a mediator.
You can bring notes if it will help you feel better, but you don’t have to.
What to think about before you come to a MIAM
If your case is about children
• What are your hopes for the children?• Do you have any concerns or worries if so, what are they?
• Do your children have any additional needs, if so, what do they need?
If your case is about finances
• Think about what needs to be discussed and sorted out.• What are you worried about for the future?
• What do you want to achieve in mediation?
• What do you want the future to look like?
If your meeting is online
You should be somewhere private with good signal or Wi-Fi, where you will not be overheard or interrupted. Treat it as a meeting, wear something which is appropriate and comfortable. Try to avoid pyjamas and dressing gowns.
You can email the mediation management team if you are worried about accessing the meeting and they will arrange for you to have a test meeting.

If your meeting is in person
We will try to arrange it at a time to suit you, if you can give as much availability as possible this is easier. We will have attached a map to the appointment email to help you find the office. If you park in the carpark at the office in Doncaster remember to pay your parking fee.
We have put a video on the website, so you know what the office looks like. Scroll down on the entrance pad to the left of the door and ring the bell. We will answer and let you in. The office is on the 2nd floor; there is a lift on the left or there are four flights of stairs.
If you have accessibility issues and need a ground floor appointment, please let us know and we will try to arrange this.
We look forward to meeting you!
