A judge has given Brad Pitt unrestricted telephone access to his kids. Does this assume that they have not been able to speak when they, or he, have wanted to in the past?
Juliette Dalrymple says: “This reflects the concerns shared with us by parents not being able to contact their children when they wish to, and vice versa. We are often asked how, if telephone access is unrestricted, do you stop your child telephoning his or her other parent when they are being told off, for example? Will it make managing the children difficult? Other concerns about the role of phone use for children include how often a parent can ring their child, or a child can call the parent they don’t live with.: once a day, twice a day, once a week? All families are different, and the best solutions are found when making arrangements tailored to individual needs of the children and their parents. An arrangement which works for a teenager, for example ringing at 9 pm to say goodnight, would not work for a younger child who has an earlier bedtime.”
