Marianne Mooney, former Family Matters administrator, is hitchhiking across Europe for charity.
Sheffield Rag, Sheffield Students Union’s fund raising charity, runs a series of events throughout the year. The highlight of the year is the hitchhiking event Bummitt, in which students are sponsored to hitchhike across Europe over the period of a week, relying on the kindness of strangers to arrive in Riga Latvia. Marianne was an administrator at Family Matters last summer before going to university in Sheffield.
She has already been offered large amounts of money by her parents not to do it, but doesn’t want to let her hitchhiking mates down. Marianne said
“these are all charities doing good work in Sheffield and I want to support them. It sounds like a holiday, but can be a challenge when you are at a motorway services in Poland, after three days with no showers, trying to look like someone would want to give you a lift”
Family Matters is supporting Marianne in her efforts to raise money for South Yorkshire good causes.
