Local mediation firm Family Matters Mediate and Solicitors Taylor Bracewell are working with the students at Hallcross School to raise awareness and funds for a national project to develop and run a website for children experiencing divorce and separation.
Juliette Dalrymple of Family Matters said “this is an innovative project which involves children and young people in the fundraising and being involved in the design of the website. At the moment there is nowhere for children experiencing the divorce or separation of their parents’ to find information and advice. This project is unique as it involves professionals and young people developing and working on the project together. Family Matters is proud to be associated with Kids in the Middle.”
The national charity “Kids in the Middle” is encouring co-operation across professional disciplines recognising that children need adults to cooperate and work together to help solve the problems they experience following their parents separation or divorce.
The website will become the first place children and young people can turn to when tey are experiencing difficulties at home or school.
As founding members Juliette Dalrymple, Alison Kitchman and Ben Latham were interviewed by Hallcross schools student charity committee. Alison (an ex Hallcross student) presented the project to the students who asked lots of searching questions. Juliette and Ben provided supporting information and Juliette talked about her experience in working with children in mediation. The students said the site sounded like a “brilliant idea” and accepted the challenge to raise two thousand pounds during the school year.
Family Matters will be raising money through a sponsored bike ride and other sponsored events throughout the year. Taylor Bracewell held a successful carol service during the Christmas period. Watch this space for more information about how the fundraising is going.
