The government supports mediation, and you may be eligible for Legal Aid or a voucher even if you are in full time work.
Payments to Family Matters can be made by phone or online by credit/debit card. Payment can also be made by BACS.

Mediation assessment and information meeting (‘MIAM’)
This is the meeting which has to take place before an application to court can be made. It can be online or in person and is your individual meeting with a mediator.
This charge covers the meeting AND the form required for application to court about children or finances. Please remember we cannot issue court forms unless the meeting has been completed and all invoices are paid in full.

Mediation meetings per person
Our minimum appointment time is one hour for each meeting. FMM recommends one and a half hours for your first appointment for mediation about children and two hours for mediation about finances. This cost includes the preparation of a draft mediation summary which you can take to a legal advisor for advice between your mediation meetings.- We charge £150.00 inc VAT per hour per person for meeting attendance. (Minimum of 90 minutes)

Child cases Parenting plan –prepared at the end of your case.
Financial cases Open statement of financial information – invoiced before and prepared after your first mediation appointment.
Memorandum of understanding – prepared at the end of your case.
- We charge £150.00 inc VAT per hour, per person. An invoice will be sent and payment made before your documents can be sent out.
Child Inclusive Mediation (CIM)
For CIM to go ahead, each parent must have attended their individual MIAM and at least one session of mediation must have taken place where the parents have agreed for the children to be invited to take part in CIM.
• Child Consultation meeting with the children. • Verbal feedback to parents/carers and further mediation meeting. • Follow up with children to pass on the key messages and agreements from the parent/carer meeting.
- All meetings charged at £150.00 inc. VAT per parent/carer per hour (Minimum of 1 hour per child for the children’s meetings and 2 hours for the parent/carer feedback and further mediation meeting).
