Sam and Elaine first came to mediation about eighteen months ago to try and sort out financial arrangements following their separation. They both attended individual assessment meetings but Sam decided that he wouldn’t go ahead with joint mediation because he thought it was too expensive.
Two weeks ago Sam came back to mediation to sort out arrangements for his children. He was very keen to mediate this time and explained that the financial arrangements had finally been sorted out through the court and it had cost him several thousand pounds in solicitors’ fees.
“I wish that I had gone ahead with the mediation then,” Sam explained.
“I thought I was saving myself a couple of hundred pounds but I have spent much more and it has all taken much longer than if we had agreed a settlement through mediation.”
Sam and Elaine are now attending mediation to agree a parenting plan for their children.
