George telephoned Family Matters to make and pay for an appointment. He worked part time as a plumber as he had care of the children.
He was coming to mediation to talk about arrangements for a holiday. His parents wanted to take him and the children abroad for a holiday. He and his ex could not agree about the dates.
George wanted to apply to court for it to decide. He didn’t think he was eligible for legal aid as he was working. He had also been told there was no legal aid for going to court.
A member of the team asked whether he wanted to be assessed for legal aid. He replied, “I don’t think I will be eligible as I am working, but yes”. We asked him some questions about the house he owned and his income and assessed him as eligible for legal aid.
He and his ex-partner, Rita, came to mediation. As he got legal aid, the cost of writing the court order was paid by the Legal Aid Agency.
George and Rita agreed the arrangements in mediation in two meetings and the children got to go abroad.
