A case where a solution to a potential long-distance relationship between parents and children was sought, was referred to Family Matters by the court. Stephen and Josie had two children aged 10 and 14. Josie wanted to move to Sweden, and the youngest child wanted to go with her. However, the older child wanted to stay with Stephen. Family Matters mediators undertook mediation and child consultation and the parents agreed on an arrangement whereby the children would go in the direction they chose but would be together during each holiday. Our mediators also made provision to make changes to this agreement should either child change their mind at any time.
