Janet and Fred had decided to separate after twenty five years of marriage. Both were employed. They attended separate initial meetings and one mediation meeting.
Within the meeting Janet and Fred talked about their hopes and expectations for the future. Janet wanted to buy a small house outright and Fred wanted to remain in the family house. Various options were considered. In mediation they were able to extend the mortgage to pay Janet a lump sum. They considered all the options and reached a decision about the division of the assets, which they both felt was fair and reasonable.
