Family Matters is finding that an increasing number of people are returning to mediation after a period of time. Usually, this is to review a previous agreement and improve their communication, or where they previously attended mediation when emotions were running high and they have now calmed.
Most recently, Lee and Angela came back to Family Matters after a previous mediation had broken down. Lee said:
“I wanted to come back to see Juliette as she was very good and was fair to both of us. Things are a lot calmer now and I think we can agree about the house and the kids this time.”
Angela said:
“I was very unsure last time Lee asked for the mediation and he arranged the first meeting. I thought that meant that the mediator would be instructed by him and had to follow his wishes. When I attended the mediation, I found out that the mediator did not take sides at all and was there for both of us. It didn’t work the first time we came, but things are better since we have our own houses and I think this time the mediation will work.”
You can use mediation to help you reach agreement about arrangements for your children and finances at any point in your separation.
