Understanding and responding to the mental health needs of children and teenagers.

We are delighted to be joined by the following prestigious speakers;

  • Sarah-Jayne Blakemore – professor of cognitive neuroscience at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London and co-director of the Wellcome Trust PhD programme in neuroscience at UCL
  • Gordon Harold – professor of psychology at the University of Sussex and holds the Andrew and Virginia Rudd chair
  • Dr Alexandra Hardy & Dr Berit Ritchie – clinical psychologists at Reflective Minds
  • Helen Kemp – The Children’s Bereavement Centre, Newark

An insightful one day event exploring psychological development, the development of social cognition in children and teenagers and the impacts of loss, stress and trauma, especially in context of family breakdown, parental divorce and separation.

Sarah-Jayne Blakemore is a Royal Society university research fellow and full professor of cognitive neuroscience at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London.

Blakemore’s research centres on the development of social cognition and executive function in the typically developing adolescent brain, using a variety of behavioural and neuroimaging methods.

Gordon Harold – University of Sussex holds the Andrew and Virginia Rudd chair and is a professor of psychology. His primary research interests focus on the role of the family as a context for understanding children’s normal and abnormal psychological development, the interplay between genetic and family relationship factors and children’s psychological development, the analysis of longitudinal data and working with cohort longitudinal data resources, and implementing practice and policy recommendations from research relating to family influences on child and adolescent mental health.

Dr Alexandra Hardy and Dr Berit Ritchie – Reflective Minds – are clinical psychologists working with 0-25 year olds, their families, carers and associated professionals. Their understanding and knowledge of the way the brain is structured and chemically shaped by positive and adverse relationships and experiences helps children, adolescents and young adults live the lives they want to live.

The Children’s Bereavement Centre funded by various charitable trusts, organisations, donations and fund-raising. This centre is run by a committed team of professionals qualified to help with the grieving process brought on by death, terminal illness and divorce or separation of someone close.
