Adrian and Rick were in a civil partnership and had decided to separate. They had substantial assets as Adrian was a successful investor in property. Rick had always remained at home and renovated their jointly owned properties. They were joint directors of their property company.
Adrian had a pension, Rick did not. Adrian had left the family home, Rick was very worried he did not have enough income to live independently and wanted to divide everything so that he was financially secure or go to court.
Adrian agreed that Rick should be financially secure but said they could not afford to both live the same way as they had done together. Rick and Adrian brought all their financial information to the mediation. The mediator provided legal information and within three mediation sessions they were able to agree a proposal that they obtained legal advice on and agreed.
